Title: The Runaway Bunny
Author: Margaret Wise Brown
Copyright Date: 1942
Publisher: Scholastic Inc.
Possible Theme: Mothers, Love, Dedication
Personal Response: The
Runaway Bunny was my favorite
book as a child. I loved to look at the pictures and imagine a fun game of
“catch me if you can”. This book is all about a mother’s love and dedication to
her child. This book is a great read around the Mother’s Day holiday or
wonderful as prediction lesson (what would the mother do next). This book is a
classic that all children should hear and all mothers can relate to.
Student Journal Entry: Why do you think some of the pictures are black
and white while others are color? If you were the bunny where would you hide?
Can you think of any new places? Write about a new place and how the mother
would find little bunny at last.
Activity: Act out the Runaway Bunny’s adventures. Play a game of tag with
your teacher (pretend you are the little bunny).
* During Halloween I
always read the parody The Runaway Mummy
by Michael Rex (funny).
